Very aptly expressed by Dominique Ingres –
The more simple the lines and forms, the greater the power and beauty…..
Sujata has this to say about her latest series –
“My latest equine series is in mixed media using layers of dry and wet materials in a move towards abstraction to create a dynamic energy on the painted surface. My goal is not to draw the horse as it is, in a defined way, rather, I draw my horses as how they register in my mind as powerful, muscular, free & poetic beings. My present drawings are in keeping with my state of mind at this point of time.”
“Horses speak to that part of our souls that long for a connection with nature, with something larger and wiser than ourselves.”
Sujata’s vividly executed lotus paintings embody the Impressionist philosophy of expressing one’s perceptions of nature, to capture the changing of light, the passing of time, and seasons. The effect of light on the colour of the flowers, and on water, the juxtaposition of colours with one another, with rapid brushstrokes, make you feel the same peace, the same completeness and the same fulfilment while affirming your belief in the power of nature embodied here.

Form is the obvious way at looking at something. I have learnt to process that into something deeper by going beyond the physicality. Now I find my paintings changing from figurative towards abstraction…..as I distil my thoughts and focus on the energy and essence of form, nature, colour, texture and even sound…
